Robin (11) in the first Isar Cataract (Class II+)

This is the second of a series of stashes which are of particular interest to white water or wildwater kayakers (the first being the Soca geocache). Although the upper Isar is a relatively easy run, with only a couple of difficulties approaching grade 3, it does have some nice limestone gorges which will delight even experienced paddlers. The whole run is set in stunning mountain scenery, making a spectacle for both the pro and the beginner alike.

Just after the 2nd. Cataract (Class III), not too far to the Gleirschbachklamm from here

The cache is located (see map) near the confluence of Gleirschbach and Isar. There are at least three ways to get to it:

  • from above, using classical mountaineering skills, abseiling in the Gleirschbach gorge...
  • canyoning down the Gleirschbach, not too difficult if you know what you're doing...
  • via Kayak, definitely the most rewarding and the most fun way of reaching the stash,

So you see, this stash requires some planning and is perhaps not the type treasure hunt to take the family for a Sunday afternoon trip.

Btw, if you enjoy this somewhat more adventurous type of geocache, then you should have a look at our Zugspitz Timberline stash, which is only a short distance away but approx. a thousand meter higher. Another WhiteWater cache can be found in Slovenia, near the Soca and in Switzerland near the Flims Gorge

The cache, a tupper ware type box, contains all
sorts of odds and ends and a log book.

Have fun!
